Pragmatics and Semantics

Some, like Peirce or Royce, are epistemological relativism, while others contend that this kind of relativism is not true. A resurgence of the classical pragmatism movement in the latter part of the 20th century resulted in a number of new developments, including a 'near-side' pragmatism that is concerned with resolution of confusion and ambiguity and the use of proper names, indexicals and demonstratives, and anaphors, as well as a 'far-side pragmatics that focuses on the semantics of discourses.

While pragmatism may be a viable alternative to the traditional analytic and continental philosophical traditions but it's not without its critics. Some philosophers, like, have argued that deconstructionism is not an entirely new philosophy and that pragmatism merely represents a form.

In addition to these critics, the pragmatism of the past was challenged by scientific and technical developments. Pragmatists, for example, have struggled to reconcile their views on science and the evolution theory that was created by Richard Dawkins, a non-pragmatist.

Despite these difficulties the pragmatism movement continues to grow in its popularity throughout the world. It is a third alternative to Continental and analytic philosophical traditions, and has a wide range of practical application. It is a rapidly growing field of inquiry.
