The X1 Omni's most appealing feature is its massive dock, which serves as the robot's charging base and the housing for two 4 liter water tanks, a clean sink, and a 2.5-liter dust bin that is automatically empties.

The base also has a variety of buttons to control the system. These allow you to start cleaning or recall the robot or start the dock's auto-emptying process. Hold down two of the buttons to toggle a child lock that is a great feature for parents who are worried about children playing with the vacuum.

Similar to other robotic vacuums, the X1 Omni utilizes its camera to detect furniture and obstacles in its path, and then avoid them. True Mapping 2.0 navigation maps your home up to four times faster than laser detection systems.

Unfortunately, this means that the X1 Omni will occasionally become so entangled with an obstruction, such as a power cord draped across a rug that it becomes stuck and stops working until you free it. This is a rare event, but frustrating nonetheless, because the X1 doesn't have a "stuck status" alert on its app.

The X1 Omni cannot automatically switch between mopping and vacuuming mode during a cleaning session. You will have to manually switch between the two modes, which isn't too bad however, mopping pads don't get washed or dried between uses. This could lead to mildew and mold.

On the bright side it's worth noting that the X1 Omni is a beautiful-looking robot thanks to the design team at Jacob Jensen (of Bang & Olufsen fame) who dreamed up its modern, sleek base and mopping pad apparatus. It's a significant departure from the utilitarian, all-black bases that are used by rivals like Roborock and iRobot and is a refreshing appearance in a market which is dominated by clunky boxes and clunky models.
