After pressing the large button I released it and hit the smaller button to secure the door. The LED is now on all the time.

I then inserted the key into the ignition and turned it to the accessory position, without beginning the engine. Then I positioned the Plip key towards the receiver at the front of the vehicle and hit the large plip button and then the smaller plip button on the remote. The Plip now works.
