The X1 Omni robot vacuum is the most expensive item in our review. However, it does have some unique features which are worth a look. The X1 Omni's main draw is its huge dock that doubles as a charging base and housing for two water tanks, a clean sink and a 2.5-liter dust bin that automatically eliminates.

The base also comes with a set of control buttons that let you manually start cleaning and then recall the robot or use the dock's automatic emptying process. Press two of the buttons to switch on the child lock which is a great feature for parents who are worried about their children playing with the vacuum.

Like other robotic vacuums the Omni Omni uses its camera to detect furniture and obstacles in its path, and then avoid them. Its True Mapping 2.0 navigation system maps your home 10 times faster than standard laser detection systems and is four times more accurate at recognizing objects.

Unfortunately, this means that the X1 Omni will occasionally become so entangled with an obstruction, such as a power cord draped across a rug, that it gets stuck and ceases to function until you remove it manually. This was a rare incident, but frustrating nonetheless, because the X1 doesn't have an "stuck status" alert in its application.

The X1 Omni cannot automatically switch between mopping and vacuuming mode during cleaning. You will have to manually switch between the two modes, which isn't that bad, except that the mopping pad isn't washed or dried between uses. This could lead to mildew and mold.

On the positive side it's worth noting that the X1 Omni is a beautiful-looking robot, thanks to the design team at Jacob Jensen (of Bang & Olufsen fame) who conceptualized its modern and sleek base as well as mopping pad. It's a big contrast to the utilitarian, all-black bases used by competitors like Roborock and iRobot, and a welcome sight in a space that is dominated by clunky boxy models.
