Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests They're also particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also extremely quiet and works while you're at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with a wet one in seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and an automatic hoover bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, though it isn't as efficient as some of its coty with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are similarly capable and look better. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it will cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and cleans and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to the amount of dirt they tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, it is worth choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have number of furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very beneficial.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app also provides access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean an area.

It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
