World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a key aspect of preparing your character. Upgrades increase the base damage as well as enhancements of items.

Both require different upgrade materials: Smithing Stones for standard weapons, and Somber Smithing Stones for modifying the kind of damage that a weapon inflicts.

In general, it is recommended to increase the damage of your weapon first, followed by armor defense, and finally the other secondary stats as required by your build. It is not unusual to see melee Druids upgrade their weapons prior to upgrading other gear. This can help increase DPS. This is particularly true for enchantments that can increase a weapon's stats as well as damage.

Armor
