Five Brooklyn Coffee Bean Shops

If you're an avid coffee drinker, then you should visit a coffee shop. These stores provide a large range of whole beans from all over the world. They also offer unique trinkets and kitchenware.

Some of these shops offer subscriptions for their coffee beans. Some shops sell coffee beans in bulk.

Porto Rico Importing Co.

Veteran coffee shop that specializes in international brews and a variety of loose teas

When you step into this old-fashioned West Village shop, the aroma of freshly roasted beans fills your nose. The shelves are lined with jars and bags of dark brown beans, with coffee-making equipment, tea accessories and sugar.

Porto Rico, originally opened in 1907 by Italian immigrants Patsy Albonese. Greenwich Village at the time was experiencing an influx Italian immigrants, who set up businesses to cater to their food requirements. Albanese named her shop after the famous Puerto Rican coffee she imported (and sold) - a beverage that was so popular at the time that even the Pope was a fan.

Porto Rico offers 130 different varieties of beans, which includes those from around the world in three locations, including Bleecker Street, Essex Market and online. The company roasts its own beans and offers wholesale distribution to 350 restaurants in NYC, Brooklyn and Brooklyn.

Peter Longo, the current president and owner of the company, grew up above the bakery of his family located on Bleecker Street where his father was the owner of Porto Rico. He runs the shop in the same manner as his father and grandfather.

Sey Coffee

Located along Grattan Street in Morgantown, Brooklyn's Bushwick neighborhood, Sey Coffee is both a coffee shop and roaster. Co-founders Tobin Polk and Lance Schnorenberg, both 33, started roasting in a fourth-floor loft around the corner from their new shop in 2011 under the name Lofted Coffee (with local clients including Greenpoint's Budin and Soho cart service Peddler).

Sey's focus on purchasing micro-lots, or even whole harvests from single farmers earned it the acclaim of discerning New York City organic coffee beans (official website) aficionados. In the past they made a six-bag micro-lot purchase of Danilo Dones Sitio Catucai 785 from Brazil's Espirito Santo region. The beans were handpicked at the peak of ripeness, then floated to eliminate any defects and dried fermented for a period of 36 hours before being dried on the farm. The result is a coffee with hints of berry lemongrass, and melon.

Sey's dedication extends beyond its shop to improve the overall health of staff and growers, as well as customers. It uses composts and biodegradable plastics to keep waste out of the garbage dumps. This helps to reduce greenhouse gases as well as nourish the soil. It also removes gratuities. This allows baristas to concentrate on their work and earn a living.

La Cabra is a moderwn around the heated box by high-speed air which keeps the beans suspended and allows roasting to happen at a consistent rate as they move through the machine.

I tried the Sumatran Coffee and it was smooth and rich with a velvety flavor. Dark chocolate was evident from the aroma and as you sip the coffee, you could smell subtle citrus fruit aromas.

The roasted coffee will be whisked into the Eversys Super-Automatic Brewing Machines and brewed according your specifications within less than a minute. Customers can choose from a variety of single origins and a range of blends.

Parlor Coffee

Parlor cheap coffee beans was founded in 2012 behind a barbershop, using a single espresso machine. It has since evolved to become a burgeoning roastery, with beans that can be found in a variety of great cafes, restaurants, and home brewers in every city. Parlor Coffee is committed to finding the highest-quality beans, that have gone through a long journey before reaching its roasters.

The owners, who self-described as "passionate about coffee and believe that a good cup of coffee should be available to everyone," have created a place that is a bit more grounded, with chalkboards, compost bins, up-cycled hand-made products, and a minimalist interior.

They roast their own blends (there were six when I was there) and single-origins, but they also have cuppings on Sundays that are open to the general public. Imagine it as a brewery tasting room where you can taste and smell the beans that are ground. They vary from earthy to chocolatey (one was almost like tomato!). It's a bit off the beaten path, but worth the journey.lavazza-qualita-rossa-coffee-beans-with-
