The Eufy 11S robot vacuum is among the most affordable self-emptying vacuums on the market. In our tests it was able pick up dry oats on hard floors and carpets with a low pile. Its dustbin opens and empties easily, making it more convenient to use than other models in its price range.

It recharges at its base and then cleans when it's ready. But its obstacle-avoidance technology gets tangled up in socks and cords and it's unable to operate under low thresholds.

1. iRobot 11S

The 11S is a less expensive self-emptying robotic vacuum cleaner that a lot of users seem to enjoy. It is great at moving under furniture and is a good choice for those with hard floors or who do a lot of cleaning. The suction is weaker than our top picks but it's still effective. It also has a huge dirt bin and a battery that can last for more than an hour. The app lets you schedule daily cleanings or choose a particular room. You can also create a map of your home to help the device avoid areas you don't wish it to visit.

The app is simple to use and has a clear layout. It doesn't have any advanced features, but it's simple enough to use and makes it easy to keep track of the progress of your robot. It also comes with an excellent tutorial that will provide you with the basics.

Its cleaning pattern doesn't always appear logical - sometimes it follows straight lines, and other times it focuses on the edges of the room - however, Bounce Navigation ensures your entire floor is cleaned. It's not the most effective at climbing obstacles - it was unable to get under our pet food bowls as well as piano pedals, and got caught in our 2.25 inch shag carpet several times.

We believe that there are better robot vacuums than the 11S. It has a larger bin, and performs better on any type of surface and can climb over low-lying obstacles (like electrical cables) more easily.

The eufy RoboVac 11S makes a good choice for regular vacuuming. It is a close design to our top pick and is great at picking up small particles and fine dust from hard floors. It does a good job on carpets with medium or low pile. Like the iRobot Roomba, it has a very large dirt compartment, and it uses BoostIQ to automatically adjust suction power. It also has a remote control that's easy to operate and you can schedule daily cleaning routines with the app. The battery can last for around an hour and the dustbin can be cleaned without taking it from the dock.

3. Shark IQ XL

Shark's robot vacuums aren't as well-known as those from iRobot or Roborock. However, our tests on the ground have proven that Shark's model is among the most efficient self-emptying vacuums available. It's simple to set up, comes with a huge bin that is easy to empty (albeit somewhat loudly) into a trash bin when it is full, and can easily be programmed to complete a home clean on a schedule or as required.

The IQ XL can connect to your home WiFi and allows you to monitor it from the Shark app and view its battery status as it cleans. The app lets you set up a cleaning routine and receive push notifications about its current status in cleaning, pause it and then clean up, or set it to only one area. You can also control it using voice commands using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. The app will inform you which the current power mode is such as Eco, Maximum, or Normal - however we found that none of these modes made an obvious improvement in the performance of cleaning.

Once it finishes a cleaning cycle after which the IQ XL automatically empties the bin into its base, and then self-empties. The bin can store up to 60 days of debris so you won't have to empty it more than once, unless your pets have long hair. If you need to empty it, simply remove the side container, hold it over the trash can, and then press a button.

There isn't much to dislike about the Shark IQ XL, although it feels a bit less robust than the Roomba 694. It's good in cleaning carpeted floors however, it's not as effective as the iRobot Roomba i7 when it comes to the performance of bare floors. The i7 is also better-built and feels more durable and robust, has less demanding maintenance requirements, incurs lower costs for recurring expenses, charges faster, while offering similar battery performance and far more advanced automation features like no-go zones and the ability to choose certain rooms to be cleaned.

iRobot j7+

This robot vac/mop combo is a rare beast, as it does both jobs very well. iRobot Combo J7+ comes with all the smarts and features similar to its j7 counterpart including LiDAR maps and self-emptying. But it also offers additional features for mopping and vacuuming.

The new acoustic sensors help the j7+ identify floor types, so it can decide between vacuuming and mopping during the first time it passes through a room. This information is also used to prioritize cleaning rooms that have carpets and carpets versus rooms with hard flooring.

Like many robotic vacuums, the j7+ is quiet when running and it's quieter when mopping. The maximum reading on our decibel meter was 64db, which is similar to the sound of normal office chatter.

It struggles a bit with pet hair and larger particles like sand, but it can remove these items with a little extra effort. It has excellent navigational capabilities and two cliff sensors that stop it from falling down stairs or getting caught on furniture legs.

We did discover a couple of small niggles with the j7+. These include that it can snag on rugs and cords and that it doesn't always turn off its mopping when done vacuuming. Overall, this is an excellent model that ticks all the right boxes.

The j7+ from iRobot also has one of the best self-emptying systems we've tested. It puts its 14oz 0.4-liter dust container into the base station, where it automatically emptys itself for you. This reduces the amount of trash that you have to dispose of. It is only necessary to replace the dust disposal bag on the dock every 60 days, based on the frequency you use the j7+.
