After a string of social media posts that hinted at it, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini finally announced its NFT (non fungible token) Project. Space Key, developed in collaboration with a non-disclosed artist and based upon advanced carbon fiber composite materials that were shipped to the International Space Station as research material, is a project that was announced by Lamborghini.

The physical aspect of the Space Key

The NFT was created in collaboration with an unknown artist and will be auctioned within a couple of weeks. The core of the NFT is a piece that's made of the latest carbon fiber composite material that was delivered to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2019 as part an ongoing research project. The carbon fiber was 3D printed to form the basis of each Space Key, which is connected to an exclusive, purely digital artwork through the QR code that is on its backside. Only five Space Keys were produced.

NFTs are unique identifications that can be recorded in distributed ledgers such as the Blockchain and connected to digital assets such as images. It's a hot subject among those with more money than common sense. It wa an out of this world image that captures the beauty of the Earth and the futuristic, hyper-realistic image of the car key lamborghini rising from it. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, however the exact date and location of the auction hasn't been set yet.

The auction

The auctions will run between February 1 and February 4. They will last 75 hours and 50 minutes, which is the time it took Apollo 11 for him to leave Earth and enter Lunar orbit. The five NFTs can be bought by creating an account online. Each NFT will be sold separately and the winner will receive an artwork created by renowned photographer Fabian Oefner that captures five different moments the Space Key experienced during its flight in outer space.
