WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. A random additional substat is also added to each upgrade item.

The more modernized gear generally has a more value in trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item upgrader mod is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item, however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment. For example upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners in a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show a preview of an Item level upgrade's next level of upgrade, in the event that there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item and the current item level. For example weapons cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Many locations offer Best item upgrader upgraders in addition to the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no item upgrader available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety means. This is both a positive and a drawback.

In Season 3, many new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once an upgrade has been completed to a specific level for teran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use. For instance it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrader gear you have available and then keep Drake and Item Level upgrade Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to make. This is particularly relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all slots are full of high-quality equipment.
