The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on bare floors and are especially adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good value, especially if your office or home has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also quiet and works when you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and robot hoover vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to set up an best automatic vacuum cleaner spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app also grants access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. And you can set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to get caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
