World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as Crit chance and damage from PvE.

If the template for upgrading a weapon ends in %, it will be able to gain 3percent of its previous attack damage every time it's upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases with the item's level.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, weapons and armor in order to give them a stat boost or an extra effect. They can be acquired through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment with a slot for them; the item must have been at a minimum upgraded to blue level for a component to be used. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used one time; they cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascending equipment, as other items that are not ascended. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's used on (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, allowing players create stronger versions with the smallest amount of upgrade crystals than they require to achieve the same level using standard methods.

A boost upgrade is a way to modify the attack or defense attributes of a weapon or armor. Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained from the completion of Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or obtained from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used for the upgrading of an item. Once enough points are earned you will be able to claim your upgrade and get its extra bonuses.

When the player upgrades a piece of equipment, the base Best item upgrader will be replaced by an item that is new. The same armor will be upgraded to an weapon or shield when upgraded. Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled if the player has enough tokens to do so. Failures will cause the item to go to its initial state, requiring the player to spend more materials than they would had they stopped upgrading at the maximum amount of upgrades.

If an item upgrader kit does not upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. Additionally the item will lose any bonuses it gained such as crit chance and attack damage, as well as all additional effects associated with that effect (for instance, an increase in heal over time or speed of reload). However, the player may continue to use the weapon or armor following the failure.

When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied in order from lowest to highest.
