World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like Crit chance and damage from PvE.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be put into armor, weapons, and trinkets to provide a stat bonus or extra impact while they're being used. These can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components are only available to equipment with a slot. The item must be upgraded to blue level before a component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and Enrichments are type of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascending equipment, as in some items that aren't ascended. Some upgrades increase the Mark Level or Rarity of an item, which lets players to create stronger versions of the item using less upgrade crystals than they require to reach the same level using standard methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can modify the attack or defense properties of a weapon, or armor.
