WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

Upgraded gear generally sees greater value for trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less useful for those with lower requirements due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and is accessible at any time to upgrade items your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current item level of the item being upgraded but they will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades are items that are used to upgrade weapons tools, armor, and other items. Players can purchase them from item upgraders NPCs for various currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with an button, which will show a preview of the item at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and current item level, with weapons costing more than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item upgrader kit is upgraded to a certain level it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases with the number of items being upgraded, and can be increased by having players complete specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only accessible through a variety means. This is both a positive and an issue.
