WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the Best item upgrader is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or Item Level Upgrade a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as useful for the latter due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader kit upgrader enables players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item, however, they are always cheaper than purchasing new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next upgrade level, when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item upgrades. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and a chance to obtain the latest recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only accessible through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit and a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with several ever it will bring some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when an item upgrading is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest level possible on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests wisely, as they are only used for one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top equipment available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to create. This is especially relevant for items like trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The account-wide discount will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
