Item upgrades are a common and essential way to boost the performance of numerous items in Path of Exile. They can provide extra damage, AD or even affixes.

There are several types of armor upgrades available in the game, and each one has distinct effects. Some upgrades give armor an extra amount of health points while others make it lighter and item upgrade more powerful. The name of the upgrade will indicate the kind of upgrade the item upgrading can be given, as illustrated below.

Some upgrades are magic or a hybrid of technology and magic which is indicated by the "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Certain upgrades require charges to use. In addition to the above-mentioned upgrades additionally, players can acquire glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs offer a small boost and can be swapped, but they are not guaranteed to show up as loot. Glyphs, like jewelry, can be upgraded by the Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Crystals. A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best item upgrade-in-Slot) items that you won't be replacing soon, followed by items with desirable stats, but less important than the iLevel of the item upgrader to be upgraded. This is especially true when you want to upgrade multiple stats on an item. It is Best item upgrader to upgrade just one crucial stat than two less important ones.
