WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item by +3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item level upgrade has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item level, however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. For example, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. Players can purchase them from item upgraders NPCs for various currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display the item's next upgrade level, if there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For example weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currency types.

Item upgraders can be found at many locations, including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade items discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no item upgrader available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade must be acquired through several methods that are both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with several new features added.
