World of Warcraft - Item Upgrade

The upgrade feature for items allows players to increase the level for equippable weapons or armor. This improves the stats and sometimes adds buffs or rerolls an affix.

It is important to remember that upgrading common gear is not always worth it. Unique and rare equipment will soon surpass the standard equipment and upgraded magic.

Cost

When a player decides to upgrade an item, they must pay Gold for the upgrade. The cost of upgrading an item is based on the current level of the item and type of upgrade. For example, upgrading a weapon will typically be cheaper than upgrading armor, as weapons have lower requirements for level. The amount of Gold required increases as an item is upgraded.

The upgraded items will also have enhanced stats that can boost its performance in different ways. This could mean increasing its attack power and critical strike chance or damage per second. The upgraded item can also give additional bonuses to the unit it is equipped with. These upgrades can be used to boost the overall strength of a unit or a single unit, and may significantly impact the gameplay.

The items can be upgraded at any NPC who is an upgrader in the game. Typically these NPCs are found in capital cities or major questing spots. You can also find item-upgraders by visiting dungeons that have high-level bosses, and speaking to NPCs in the garrisons of your faction.

The World of Warcraft item upgrade system allows players to increase the level of weapons, armor and trinkets. The process is similar to the process used for gear reforging in Mists of Pandaria and Warlords of Draenor, but instead of using the currency that is appropriate players need to visit an item upgrader NPC to complete the process.

Upgrades to items can be costly, especially when it comes to weapons and armor. Based on the upgrade track you select, each upgrade can cost Crests or Valorstones. The cost can be prohibitive for players who do not have the funds or are unable to grind.

Fortunately, the game lets players reroll an upgraded item with an additional tool available in the menu of items. This is useful for obtaining better rolls on items that have already been upgraded, but could be a waste of money.

Requirements

The process of upgrading equippable items like armor, weapons and trinkets is to raise the item level. This boosts their stats and can make them more effective in battle. The first upgrades increase the stats of the base item upgrader kit by one level, however later upgrades provide more significant increases. Upgrades from level 3 to 6 will increase the weapon's damage plus two levels. Additionally the upgraded item will get an additional stat that is based on the level at which it was purchased. The maximum level of upgrade for an item is determined by the item's level and its quality.
