For instance, the northern mockingbird is vulnerable to collisions with structures and to poisoning by pesticides. The Floreana and Espanola mockingbirds are both critically endangered. They have a limited range and a very small population. The Mockingbird is a beloved symbol of southern culture. It is featured in folklore, art, stories, and even in literature. It is the bird of state of Florida, Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi. It was also featured in Harper Lee's novel To Kill a Mockingbird, which is a popular book about race and loss of innocence.
