Three Wheeled Buggies

Three-wheeled buggies are great for walking around the neighborhood or for jogging. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver even in tight areas.

If you want a smooth ride with your baby, select models with 360deg front wheels with swivel. They are prone, however, to punctures. Make sure you have a repair set.

Sturdy frame

Recent figures have been released that show that the three-wheeled buggie - a symbol of the noughties of more money than sanity - is in steep decline. They've been replaced with four-wheelers which can handle a wider variety of terrain, while still looking stylish and easy to push.

The larger the wheels are, the better your buggy will cope with uneven surfaces and bumpy pavements. Having larger wheels both front and back makes it easier to manoeuvre and more stable when walking downhill or on rough terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy with a newborn and 3 year old and found it was able to handle cobbles, grass rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath said it felt solid to push and extremely solid on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need occasional pumping) have suspension built-in that was very comfortable for my kids.

The size and shape of the seat is another aspect to consider. You want the seat to be big enough for your child to feel at ease and to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies offer the option of reclining completely, while others only allow for a parent facing one.

The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road and muddy walks. This buggy is ideal for a single child as early as birth and can be modified to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for babies and toddlers up to age four and includes a bumper bar, raincover, a better 5-point harness and large padded seat unit. Wheels with larger diameter
